A gravity bong is kind of like waterboarding for stoners, only better because it shreds your consciousness in a positive rather than negative way. With a gravity bong, a couple of bottles, H2O, and the laws of physics are used to produce Olympian rips that transport the stoner to previously unheard-of heights of THC-driven delight.
No one here at the online head shop knows exactly who came up with the gravity bong but it was obviously someone with a keen knowledge of both hydrology and stonology. Because bottles take many different shapes and sizes, gravity bongs (sometimes referred to as “geebs”) also take on myriad forms. But no matter the form, the principle behind this most creative of stoner innovations remains the same.
Now that we’ve piqued your interest let’s put those opposable thumbs to work and create a simple, yet undeniably effective gravity bong.
Making a gravity bong
Gravity bongs aren’t for everyone. But if you’ve already picked up a dazzling custom bong from our online smoke shop and you’re looking for something to trot out after all the amateurs go home a gravity bong may be just what the doctor ordered. Here’s what you’ll need to make one:- 2-liter plastic water bottle (wide enough for the 1-liter bottle to fit inside)
- 1-liter plastic water bottle
- Box cutter/scissors
- Apple or Carrot For a Bowl
- Toothpick
- Water
- Step 1: Using the box cutters or scissors, cut the top off of the 2-liter water bottle. Take your time and be careful not to cut yourself in the process.
- Step 2: Cut the bottom off of the 1-liter bottle, again being careful not to cut yourself with the box cutter or scissors.
- Step 3: Make a hole in the cap of the 1-liter bottle. You can do this with box cutters or scissors, or by burning a hole using a lighter. The presence of the cap makes it a little easier to remove the ‘bowl’ and access your hit later.
- Step 4: Carve a bowl, and fashion it over the cap, do not use aluminum foil. (Note: if you want, you can buy a bowl from our online head shop and simply stick this through the hole in the cap, sealing the rough edges.)
- Step 5: Put the finishing touches on your bowl, or the one you bought at the online smoke shop. Now’s the time to poke some holes in it to allow air through.
- Step 6: Fill the 2-liter bottle with water up to the point where the 1-liter bottle curves inward at the top. In other words, you don’t want so much water in the 2-liter bottle that it pushes up against the bottom of the herb bowl when the 1-liter bottle is set into the water.
- Step 7: Place the 1-liter bottle with the bowl into the 2-liter bottle. Then screw the cap/bowl onto the 1-liter bottle and fill it (the bowl) with your favorite strain of herb. You should grind the herb first to make sure it burns nice and smooth.
- Step 8: Spark up the herb and as you do slowly lift the 1-liter bottle up out of the water at the same time. As you lift the bottle air will be forced through the weed to fill the vacuum being created inside the 1-liter bottle. Just make sure not to lift the 1-liter bottle completely out of the water.
- Step 9: By the time you stop lifting the bottle should be full of smoke and the weed in the bowl should all be cooked. Now put the lighter down and unscrew the cap/bowl while holding the 1-liter bottle elevated in the water.
- Step 10: Place your mouth over the mouth of the 1-liter bottle and inhale while you push the bottle back down into the water. The rising water within the bottle will force the smoke up into your lungs. Hold the smoke for a few seconds, release it, and enjoy the results.
