Instead of playing a guessing game, use this handy guide to light the path to better dabs. We know what we’re talking about! So let’s get into it. How do you next-level your dabbing experience?

Get the right dabber tool

Of course, there are plenty of dabber tools to pick from. They’re all meant to create a contact-free way to manipulate the wax while you’re heating it up to make sure the heat is distributed evenly. Since there are so many different dabber tools to choose from, it’s best to go to your local smoke shop and check out all the options. Some tools are pointy and compact, while others are longer. Some are very aesthetically pleasing, while others are more utilitarian. Consider what kind of concentrate you’ll be using to decide which tool to get. Oils, resins, and crystalline concentrates all require different tools! Here are some common materials:
  • Quartz – durable, heats up well, loses heat quickly, allows for best flavor
  • Titanium – durable, lightweight, should be medical grade
  • Ceramic – good heat retention
  • Glass – fragile but can be handmade and beautiful

A carb cap

Lots of people who dab on the regular consider carb caps to be the most vital dab tool out there. At the very least, they’re your best bet at getting the most out of each dab. So you’d better get one while you’re out at your smoke shop! While you’re dabbing, the carb cap sits on top of the nail once you start to inhale. While you inhale, it keeps the vapor in and traps the heat. This maintains the perfect temperature on your nail for a prolonged period of time. In the world of dab accessories, you’d be hard pressed to find something as diverse as the carb cap. It can be super overwhelming to even know where to start! Talk to the employees at our Denver smoke shop and we’ll be able to answer all your questions and point you in the right direction. We’ll help you check the specs and see what benefits and features you’re looking for.

The best torch you can find

If you’re using an average or below-average torch, your whole dabbing experience can be put off whack. After all, heating up your nail is the bread and butter of the whole process! You don’t want to have a cheap torch that stops working and brings everything to a halt. Just do yourself a favor and get a good torch. It’s not that hard, and it can prevent major disappointment. Did you know that there are lots of torches designed just for dabbing? They’re designed to deliver the perfect flame for even heating. The right torch will provide you with a long-term way to heat up your nails with complete precision. Clearly, it’s worth the investment to get a dab-specific torch. And just think of how impressed your friends will be when you show up to your next session with a high-quality dabbing torch! They’ll know you don’t mess around. Our headshop has lots of recommendations for torches. Just call us up and we’ll point you in the right direction! Sometimes all you need is a second opinion.

Silicone slip mats

Something that people hate about dabbing is that it’s messy. Of course, no one wants to end up with a gross mess to clean up after their session. No matter how clean you try to be, the sticky wax will always end up all over your rig, tools, and surfaces. Slip mats are an easy way to keep your station clean. They create a stable and non-slip base for your rig, torch, accessories, and tools. This keeps your setup clean from residue that you’ll regret later. But even with a slip mat, you’ll still need to clean your rig. Here’s how!
  • Torch off the resin on your nail. This will work as long as you do it consistently.
  • Finish off the nail with an alcohol-soaked Qtip.
  • Pour the water out of your dab rig. This will prevent the buildup of oil and preserve the terpene flavor.
  • Add alcohol and coarse salt to your rig.
  • Cover the openings and shake your dab rig.
  • Rinse everything with warm water for up to five minutes to make sure there isn’t any leftover alcohol.
  • Repeat after your next session!
