Our Denver smoke shop has a secret love: weed tea. Does it sound disgusting? Yes! Is it disgusting? That’s up to you to decide.

With the right mix of weed, tea, and add-ons like honey or cinnamon, you can create a delicious concoction that will get you as high as a kite.

We’re excited to share this recipe with you. Weed tea is a little-known way of consuming marijuana, but it can do wonders.

What’s better than snuggling up with a cup of tea while watching one of your favorite shows? And not just any tea. Tea that will get you high!

So put away your glass pipes and pull out a ceramic mug instead. Here we go!

What Does Weed Tea Do?

Weed tea is essentially an edible. Therefore, the effects of drinking weed tea are the same as if you consumed that much of the same strain as any other form of edible.

It will likely take about an hour to an hour and a half for all of the effects of your weed tea to kick in. Factors that affect how long it takes include your individual health and endocannabinoid system.

Start with only a little bit of tea and wait at least two hours before drinking more. Since you’re ingesting the THC and not smoking it, it metabolizes in your liver. There, it turns into 11-hydroxy-THC. This is more potent and lasts longer!

To Be High or Not To Be High

There are perks to making your weed tea while high and perks to make your weed tea while sober.

If you’re sober, you’re less likely to mess up the recipe. You can probably perfect things more easily, and it’s safer to work with hot water when you’re clear-headed.

On the other hand, making weed tea while high is certainly an adventure. You’ll probably end up with a messy kitchen and something that is nearly undrinkable.

But if you’re high as a kite, it might taste delicious no matter how gross it actually is! Making weed tea while high is a fun activity that will pass the time- and get you even higher. Use caution!

Supplies and Ingredients

Brewing up your first cup of cannabis tea is as easy as can be. No glass pipes are needed here! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1g cannabis
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 1 tea bag or loose-leaf tea
  • 4 cups water
  • Honey, cinnamon, or any other add-ins
  • Mug
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Coffee filters

Instructions

It should take you about 15 minutes to make your weed tea.

Get All Your Ingredients Together

Gather all of the aforementioned ingredients. It’s easier to make your tea if you have everything collected beforehand and ready to go. That way you don’t have to take breaks between steps to grab things!

Grind Up Your Cannabis

Grinders usually come in three materials: metal, plastic, and wood. Any of these three materials work for making tea.

Since you don’t need too much bud, you don’t need the largest grinder out there.

You may be tempted to add some kief to the mix to make the tea stronger, but don’t! It will be too fine and will make it through your filter.

Even cutting your bud with a knife will do the trick for making tea if you can’t find your grinder.

Boil Your Water

Boil four cups of water in a saucepan.

Add the Oil

Once the water has begun to boil, add the coconut oil. Let it dissolve all the way. The fat gives something for the cannabinoids to bind to so they distribute throughout your tea. Fat also makes cannabinoids more bioavailable, as Leafly explores in their bioavailability guide.

Add the Tea and Let Boil

Now, add your cannabis and your tea. Let it boil for up to ten minutes, stirring often.

After about ten minutes, you’ll probably have yourself some well-infused tea. Take your saucepan off the heat and turn off the stovetop. Remove your tea bag, if you used one.

Filter

Now you need to filter out your flower, and the loose-leaf tea if you used it. If you used a teapot to make everything, all you need to do is put a coffee filter around the spout and hold it with a rubber band.

If you used a saucepan, put the coffee filter over the top of a mug. If you have a cone for filtering coffee, that’s even better!

Drink Up!

Finally, it’s time to drink your tea. There are plenty of things you can add to it- lemon, honey, cinnamon, milk, and more! You especially might want to add some sweet things to offset the musk of the weed.

We must admit, you’ve got to really love weed in order to enjoy weed tea. If you have an affinity for the taste, this one’s for you. If not…good luck! Stick to using some heady glass and you’ll be happier. But at least you tried!
